Gold of Marquette (Hooper Season Preview)

Gold of Marquette: The tallest freshman on the Marquette Golden Eagles Basketball team

Ben Gold was born on in 2003, 19 years after Dwyane Wade led the Golden Eagles to the NCAA Final Four game.

Gold is very versatile. He move very well for his tall frame.

He was the first Kiwi selected to the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, Australia and he is first hooper from New Zealand in the academy to sign with a NCAA Division I program. Competing against the top prep teams in the nation at the Tarkanian Classic and the G League Showcase, Gold put up a show in Las Vegas in 2021. He finished with 22 points and 8 rebounds in 25 minutes at the showcase against NBA Academy Africa.

Current Marquette player Olivier-Maxence is also a product of the NBA Academy Latin America program.

Being a Freshman, it would be tough for Gold to get big minutes when there are multiple sophomore in the same position. (Oso Ighodaro, 6’9″ and Keeyan Itejere, 6’9″) We already know he is a great offensive weapon. His defence could potentially be the key for him to get more minutes.

When Gold gets on the court, expect to see some great catch and shoot from deep.

First game for the Golden Eagles would be to play against Radford Highlanders on Monday Nov 7 at Fiserv Forum. Would this game be Gold’s debut? We will be watching closely.
