Personal: Son of Sharon and Rob Gold. Rob is 6’5″ and Sharon is 6’2″.
I grew up around basketball. Dad was playing basketball. I got two older brothers that were playing basketball so I was basically surrounded by it when I was younger, growing up [and] training with them, playing against them in the backyard. All the fights and physical games that happened just made me better. And then just being around them and having them introducing me to the basketball community, training with the coaches that I’ve been through.
High School: Ben went to Tawa College in Wellington, New Zealand. Selected to the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, Australia … The academy’s first product from New Zealand to sign with a NCAA Division I program … Finished with 22 points and eight rebounds in just 25 minutes at the showcase in a matchup against NBA Academy Africa … Led Wellington Basketball to the U17 Aon National Championship in 2018 … Named to the all-tourney team in 2019.
I did track and field growing up ‘til I was around 12. I also played rugby so rugby is the big sport back home. Everyone’s playing it, so it came to a point where I had to choose between rugby and basketball. I couldn’t do both.
Summer (2022): Competed for Basketball New Zealand in the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers … Finished with 13 points and seven rebounds in a win over Saudi Arabia … He contributed 15 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots in a victory over Jordan to close out his summer campaign with the Tall Blacks..
Winter (2022): Competed for Basketball New Zealand at the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers in Manila, Philippines … Represented his country at the U15, U16 and U17 levels, including the FIBA U15 Oceania Championships in 2018.
